The Switch Espresso training room is a modern, comfortable space where you can learn the latest and greatest techniques for fixing a killer coffee. The most important part of our training programme isn’t the room, though – it’s our talented trainer Chiara. She’s our in-house NZSCA-accredited barista trainer (one of the only ones in the South Island), and she can have anyone whipping up top-notch espresso in no time.
Chiara, with the help of our shiny new training room, is in charge of training the baristas at all the cafés that stock Switch Espresso. That’s why you can be sure if you see the Switch Espresso logo outside your local café, you’re in for a good coffee.
We’re looking forward to spreading the art of coffee making far and wide, and Chiara is working on developing a professional-quality course that any member of the public can take. Whether you’re an aspiring barista looking to up your skills, or a home coffee lover wanting to get the most out of your benchtop espresso machine, you’ll be able to join in and make the most of Chiara’s expertise. We’re also using the training room as our tasting room for cupping and quality control. Every week, we taste test our blends to make sure the flavour is consistent, and discuss if anything needs to be tweaked in our quest to achieve coffee perfection. This can involve cupping (tasting steeped and cooled coffee and water) as well as making espresso shots and milky coffee to test out our coffees in every scenario they might be used.
